TSU's Women's Center, in conjunction with the Meharry Center for Women's Health Research and the Gilyam Group, held a forum on Wednesday, Sept. 3 to highlight and showcase HIV activist Marvelyn Brown's national acclaim. Among high school students, college students, faculty and staff, Brown shared her unapologetic testimony about living with HIV. (2) comments

Queen Washington Health Center, along with Suntrust Bank, TSU's Women's Center and the University Honor's Program held Project Hope, an effort to inform students about the effects of HIV, Thursday, Sept. 4 at the Avon Williams campus. "Quite a few students came," said Stephanie Bundle, coordinator for the Women's Center. (0) comments

Three major issues have halted the receipt of refunds for students, according to Michael Jones, associate director of financial aid. In some cases, these issues prevent the processing of essential paperwork for students trying to stay in school. "One of the issues we're having is loans with Sallie Mae," Jones said. (2) comments

9,000  Student social security numbers missing

A flash drive containing financial information and social security numbers of more than 9,000 students was reported missing from the Tennessee State University campus earlier this week. A financial aid counselor reported the flash drive missing Tuesday morning after discovering that it was no longer in her possession, administrators said. (8) comments

Fast fundraising efforts helped to retain nearly 900 of 1,338 students who were to be purged from the university on Friday. Donations to TSU's Bridge Grant Program provided monetary support to the several students who fell short financially. Also a local church has raised $15,000 for students who were purged last Friday. Two female students were robbed on campus last Tuesday, bringing more attention to TSU's police department and raising concerns about the campus' safety level. Though as of press time, the suspects were still at large, TSUPD is actively investigating the case. (2) comments

GOP VP nominee under scrutiny

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has fallen under public and political scrutiny following her nomination. Among the disclosures, Palin and her husband, Todd, announced that their 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, is five months pregnant. She has intentions of marrying the father of the child. (0) comments
