University hires new  basketball head coach

The arrival of the new TSU Men's head basketball coach John Cooper projects a new outlook on the future of the program. Supporters of Cooper say he "exemplifies and displays intelligence, persistence, and dedication." For them, these qualities are what the basketball program has been missing lately. (0) comments

Academia is not the only portion of TSU that has felt the sting of a reduced budget as a result of the decrease in funding at the University. When fall enrollment numbers failed to reach the expected number of 12,000 students, the school lost out on additional funding, $8 million of which had been originally allocated for the athletic department. TSU basketball players showcased their talent one final time in the second annual Tennessee all-star game. TSU alumni Ceci Shell and former coach Brian "Penny" Collins continued to give back and allowed senior college basketball players a final shot to display their talents on the collegiate level. Saturday, April 18 marked the annual spring Blue and White game for the TSU Tigers football team, white White winning 6-3. Each year the offensive and defensive Tigers compete against each other in a match in Hale Stadium. Men, women, Alumi, boys, girls, Tigers, Cheerleaders, Tigergems and the one of a kind Aristocrat of Bands showed their Tiger pride at the game. (0) comments

The Tigers Women's golf team finished first at last weekend's Alabama A&M Golf Classic. The win marked the first this season for the Tigers as they head into the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate at the Hermitage Golf Course in Nashville. Three Tigers finished in the Top 5 and four in the top 10 with the lone Tiger not in the top 10, Mya Billingsley, finishing in 11th place. (0) comments

The Tigers of the University of Memphis are in search for a new head coach of their Men's basketball program. John Calipari, who led the Tigers for the past nine years, signed a multi-year deal to coach at the University of Kentucky. For Calipari it marks the third head-coaching job he has held in the collegiate ranks; he also was the coach of the New Jersey Nets from 1996-1999. (0) comments
