TSU's latest hires may bring new fundraising tactics and a revised marketing method to the university.

The university has named Betsy Jackson as executive director of the TSU Foundation and K. Dawn Rutledge Jones as assistant vice president for marketing and communications.

Both positions fall under the University Relations and Development department's newly formed Office of Marketing and Communications.

Jackson assumed the responsibilities of university retiree Hollis F. Price Jr., who served as Interim Executive Director of the TSU Foundation and also executive assistant to former TSU President James A. Hefner.

"Basically, what I am responsible for is the operations of the foundation, which are collecting, managing and distributing funds from private donors such as alumni, companies, etc.," Jackson said.

Each year, the TSU foundation provides vital funds for academics and athletics.

Jackson established the advancement services departments for both Spelman College and Bethune-Cookman University.

"I am very excited about the start of a brand new year with the students back on campus," Jackson said.

Jones' responsibilities include developing strategies and plans, implementing programs, and managing operational resources to promote a vibrant image of the university.

She will also provide strategic direction and oversight for the university's branding, marketing and public relations functions, as well as the university's Web site, publications, printing, conferences and special events management.

Jones comes to the university with 15 years of experience in the areas of public relations, marketing, and media relations.•
