Russell Simmons leaves Phat Farm

Hip hop fashion mogul Russell Simmons recently stepped down as CEO of the Phat Farm clothing line according to www.blackenterprise.com.

Simmons sold his chief ownership shares of the company in 2004 to Kellwood Company, but retained the position of CEO.
Simmons sited his motivation for leaving Phat Farm as a desire to move into a more mature market.

Re-introducing himself with three new clothing lines, Simmons plans to direct his efforts toward mature males.

Argyle Culture will cater to the casual male, Atman will serve boutique level consumers with high-end purchase budgets and Russell

Simmons will work for the crowd seeking pinstriped and tailored suits.

As a result of Simmons stepping down, his ex-wife and business partner, Kimora Lee Simmons, was promoted to head creative director of the line.

Rapper drops designer hat line

Hip-hop recording artist and emerging style icon, Common, has just released a line of luxury hats called Soji.

Soji, which means new birth, was launched in January and is available for retail purchase exclusively with Italian crafted clothing company,

La Coppola Storta in SOHO, N.Y.

The hat promises to deliver expert craftsmanship and will cater to high-end shoppers willing to pay for the expertly hand-made items.

With prices ranging from $130 to $150, items can be purchased at sojihats.com.

Atomic Pink hits TSU

Nationwide cell phone service provider, Cricket, brought punk-pop hybrid band Atomic Pink to the TSU campus as part of the Cricket College Tour.

The El Paso, Texas based band was asked by Cricket to headline the tour. Theband played at in the courtyard outside the Floyd-Payne campus center on Sept. 18.

The next stop in Nashville will be Centennial Park on Wednesday, Sept.19, and finally Middle Tennessee State University on Sept. 20.
