TSU Lady Tigers head coach Tracee Wells was horned as Coach of the Year in the Ohio Valley Conference on Thursday March 6. Wells is the second coach in Lady Tigers history to win coach of the year. Present Athletic Director Teresa Phillips won the award three times during her coaching career (1989-90, 1992-93, 1993-94).

This season the Lady Tigers turned their previously tumultuous seasons around. For the last two season the Lady Tigers have finished last with a combined conference record of 4-36. But this year the Lady Tigers won 10 games and finished fifth in the conference. The 10 wins in conference play this year was the most since the 1994-95 season when they went 12-4.

The Lady Tigers success was mostly due to the efforts of the junior duo of Kendra Appling and Oby Okafor.

Appling had a career year for the Lady Tigers. She was fourth in the conference in scoring averaged 17 points a game and a conference leading 2.59 steals. Appling also lead the Lady Tigers in three point percentage shooting 40 percent from behind the line.

Appling secured her first team selection against Jacksonville State when she scored 50 points. The 50 point outing was the second most in Lady Tigers history and OVC history.

Oby Okafor had another great season for the Lady Tigers. The second team all OVC selection was sixth in scoring this season with 17 points per game. Okafor also averaged 8 rebounds a game which included a conference best 4.5 offensive rebounds. On the season Okafor finished the season with 11 double doubles.
