Students may have seen the cards in the student center and at various other hot spots on campus advertising a 30-day free trial on Faithmate's Web site, faithmate.com, but most still have no idea what it is.
FaithMate.com is seeking to become the number one destination for urban singles looking for a loving, faith-based relationship and is beginning to branch out in the Nashville community.
"FaithMate.com offers over 20 million singles with spiritually-centered lifestyles a positive place to meet, dialogue and optimistically get to know others with shared values and beliefs," said David Smallwood, vice-president of
FaithMate.com. "FaithMate is more than just a dating Web site. It's really designed to be a lifestyle portal."
FaithMate.com offers several incentives for its members. Outside of finding meaningful relationships with people of similar faith, members also have access to tools that help to build and maintain those relationships.
Various pastors and well-known ministry leaders, such as founder Bishop Noel Jones and Pastor Paula White, post clips and information on dating, relationships and faith as resources to the members.
Unlike other dating sites, FaithMate.com is making a conscious effort to provide a safe, non-threatening environment for Christian singles to fellowship and get to know one another without all of the distractions that plague other sites.
"We vigorously police the Web site," Smallwood said. "We have to be sure that we can maintain the integrity of the site.
"Anytime we get any type of scam artist come on asking people to send money, we send an e-mail out to the entire community exposing that person," he added.
The Web site does not allow members to upload videos in order to prevent lewd or pornographic material from infiltrating the site. Only pastors and ministry leaders are allowed to post video footage. Also, all member photos and information are approved by the Webmaster before it is allowed to go live on the site.
