This semester brings a new look for TSU's campus center food court-the Sub-as well as new snack station and a new meal plan.
Updates to the sub include a new floor, counters that separate the customers from the cash registers, soft drinks, snack items and food preparation stations. Taco Bell was also exchanged for Montague's Deli.
The Burger King was supposed to be replaced by Grill Works but was not due to contractual obligations.
"We put the Grill (Works) in but at the last minute Burger King came in with some little clause in the contract that says we have to put it back in for two months," said James Cooke, TSU's food service senior director.
Montague's Deli offers non-fast food options, such as sandwiches, subs and wraps.
"It's a great alternative to have instead of just fast food," said Shenitha Hampton, associate director of the office of Residence Life. "It's almost equivalent to Subway. I think they should also remove the Pizza Hut."
Some students are also praising the addition of Montague's Deli to the sub.
"I think it's good and it's really nice," said Riaassa Muhammad, a sophomore biology major from Little Rock, Ark. "They take their time to prepare the sandwiches and they're really nice. They ask you constantly, 'Is this right?'"
However, other students notice positive changes but still see ways the sub can be improved.
"The sub appears to be clean," said Alexis Moore, a junior Africana studies major from Little Rock Ark. "It's stylish, almost chic, but it's not efficient." There's too much waiting around, not enough people working."
The remodeling of the sub was done for a couple of reasons. According to Cooke, the floor was in much need of repair, Taco Bell's contract was up, the remodel improved customer service and it cut down on theft.
"When we put the counter in it helped everything," Cooke said.
"Now you only have to deal with three employees when you used to deal with four or five."
