Murs
Grade: A
A much-needed breath of fresh air is brought to listeners with the smooth and up-tempo hip-hop groove of an album by an artist who goes by the name Murs.
While Murs has been in the game for a while, Murs for President is his major label debut. With this collection of solid lyricism and a knack for clever wordplay, this album proves to be a step in the right direction for hip-hop.
For years the emcee has made a name for himself with independently released album and his turn to the majors has not hurt him in the least.
While being on an independent label, Murs sold music outside his vehicle and travelled all around the world promoting his music.
On this new album Murs brings listeners into his world by sharing what life is to him through a unique point of view.
The talented artist could be compared to other artist such as Talib Kweli, Common and even Kayne West with some of the topics he brings up in his songs.
This album will definitely inspire thought about what is really going on in our world.
The Science is an in your face type of song. It begins of Murs telling everyone in the "barber shop", that they do not know what real hip-hop is, so he has to drop the science. It describes his feelings on how corrupt the government is and also how we need to open our eyes and realize that race is not everything.
Me and this Jawn, is a love song and happens to be very catchy because it uses an old-school sample of Al Green. This song would attract young teenagers who may have young love in their life.
Murs does a great job with his album with mixing different genres. There is also the presence of old-school hip hop mixed with new-school hip-hop.
Love and Appreciation II, is a song uplifting women. Telling men to treat women like ladies, stop disrespecting them and show them love. This song will be a winner with the ladies, and is
definitely a banger.
Murs opts to collaborate with artist such as Wil.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas and Snoop Dogg. Even with collaborations, it is clear who the star is.
Solid delivery and great music permeate the disk and the work is some of the best hip-hop for the conscious and alert hip-hop fan.
Overall, this album is a sure winner; Murs will be the next president in hip hop.
