Hands of support were strung together as several Student Goverment Association and Royal Court candidates paced back and forth nervously.
"And the winners are," joked associate vice president for Student Affairs Dorothy Lockridge, who announced the results of each category, beginning from sophomore class president and ending at the top with Miss TSU.
After each candidate, a crowd of joyous onlookers burst into applause signifying their much coveted approval.
Winners were announced in an special ceremony, culminating the annual Student Election Commission Week.
Tears and tissue ran rampant as winning and losing candidates showcased varied emotions. Several misty-eyed, winners took a brief moment to call their friends and family requesting they join in the celebration as well.
"Mom," exclaimed Jennifer Williams, a junior psychology from Memphis. "I won!"
Williams was elected as 2009-2010 SGA President.
"This moment feels overwhelming and blessed at the same time," Williams said. "And this is only the beginning."
Williams said her first act of business is a proposed walk through campus at night with administration.
She said she hopes to give administrators a real look at campus security. Student safety, she insisted, will be one of her primary focus.
Williams hopes to work closely with her new vice-president, Danny Glover. The junior political science major from Macon, Ga. ran unopposed, but still committed to running a full campaign.
"I ran a full campaign unopposed, but it did not bother me" Glover said. "[But] 977 students took a chance on me, they want a change."
As the new vice president, Glover said he hopes to leave a strong legacy on campus after his term is complete. He explained he is taking his new role with a sense of selflessness and an instant charge to lead.

This story is filled with lies considering both Jennifer Williams and Danny Glover lost their positions. Both candidates have lost my respect.
