Friends, goals should be connected

I recently had a conversation with a young student here at TSU, and although she was very smart and somewhat well rounded, I could not tell because of the not so smart acting ladies she was surrounded by.
Women must be aware of how our chosen circles of friends influence us, and in some situations negatively reflect our character, behavior and thought process.
We have all heard the saying that "birds of a feather, flock together". Ladies be sure you realize who you are flocking with.
If a girl considers herself an upstanding person with goals and aspirations, but her friends influence her to hang out in the Student Center day in and day out, she may need to invest in some new friends.
While in college, if the only thing a group of girlfriends have in common with one another are men, clothes, money, cars and clubbing, that group needs to break up and find other girls who are more progressive and purpose driven.
The point I am fighting so hard to convey is not that there is something wrong with hanging in the student center on occasion or talking about materialistic things, but it is crucial for women across campus to understand that the ties that we have with one another also have a profound impact on every aspect of our lives.
Also, maintaining un-healthy, non-encouraging and poisonous relationships is a direct reflection of our own personal thinking.
When a young lady befriends those whose personal behaviors and actions that do not align with her own, she is condoning that conduct unintentionally saying that it is fine to be that way.
As a result of surrounding ourselves with negative people, we are undermining our success and prohibiting our growth.
A famous quote once said, "It's difficult to soar with the eagles, when you're scratching with the turkeys." Ladies, are you, a turkey or an eagle?!•
