On Saturday, the Tigers take on the University of Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks in the Homecoming game.

However, after a loss last week to Tennessee Tech University(TTU), the Tigers will just have to settle for trying to remain in the hunt for the OVC championship.

The Tigers had been vying for the York Trophy, the second of two national traveling awards between more than two teams.

The other is the Commander in Chief's Trophy which has been contested between Air Force, Army and Navy annually since 1972.

The York Trophy goes to the winner of the quadrangular season series between the four OVC schools in Tennessee - Austin Peay University, University of Tennessee-Martin, TTU and TSU.

TTU defeated Austin Peay (31-23) and UT-Martin (35-28) earlier this season to set up the chance to claim the title against the Tigers, which they did after Saturday's loss.

The Tigers hold the all-time series lead, 14-4. This includes victories in the last two meetings including last year's come-from-behind overtime victory for the Tigers.

The loss dropped the Tigers into a tie for second place in the conference standings behind Eastern Illinois University, who leads the OVC with only one conference loss.

This season, the Tigers' offense is averaging around 250 total yards and 14 points per game.

However, they have had their struggles at times and been inconsistent from week to week.

Despite dropping three of the last four games, the Skyhawks are definitely an opponent the Tigers can't afford to look past.

They have a formidable defense led by Josh Bey, who is among the league leaders in tackles and sacks per game.

As of week eight, he ranks 23rd and 22 respectively in those categories.

On offense, the Skyhawks rely on Cade Thompson under center who is averaging nearly 300 yards passing over the last two games, his two best performances so far this season.•
